Level 3 Diploma in Spa Therapy

This course is designed to prepare you for a career as an employed Spa Therapist.

Using the facilities in our commercial salon and spa, you will understand the importance of creating a relaxing atmosphere while enhancing a client's appearance.

Once you have delved into the history and origins of massage therapies, you will begin to develop your skills across a range of treatments such as providing cover massages, heat and hydrotherapy, body wrapping, holistic facials, manicures and pedicures.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Body wraps
  • Steam, sauna and hydrotherapy
  • Spa pedicure
  • Spa manicure
  • Promote and sell products and services
  • Holistic facial treatments
  • Client care and consultation
  • Anatomy and physiology for the face and body systems
  • Swedish massage
  • History and origins of massage therapies
  • Health and safety in the salon

There is also an opportunity to complete additional units including, Thai stamp massage, stone therapy and Indian head massage.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through ongoing practical observations carried out within a realistic working environment, portfolio evidence, external examinations and a graded synoptic assessment.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have successfully completed a level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification or equivalent.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

If you already have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths but wish to achieve a higher grade, we can also support you to do this.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2019), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have the professional skills and knowledge to enter this exciting industry!

You may choose to work in a day spa, luxury hotel, at home and abroad in resorts, cruise liners or even health clubs.

Alternatively, you might decide to continue your studies by progressing on to the FdA in Spa Therapies and Management at University Centre St Helens.

Additional Information

As part of this programme you are required to wear a uniform. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from a recommended supplier. You may be eligible for financial support to cover these costs.
